W.Va. State Police investigate Martinsburg stabbing

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Two men were stabbed Sunday morning in an incident that was being investigated by West Virginia State Police.

Police said a trooper who stopped a vehicle on Apple Harvest Drive near Lowe's was approached at 1:25 a.m. Sunday by three men requesting an ambulance. One of the men, Paul Ernst Joseph, 23, of 14048 Village Mill Drive, Maugansville, was bleeding heavily from several stab wounds, including one to the liver, police said.

The men told police that Joseph was stabbed during a fight in the parking lot of Club Zero. A bouncer at the club, John Andrew Redman, 37, of 621 N. High St., was stabbed in the hand when he tried to intervene in the fight, police said.

Joseph was taken to Martinsburg City Hospital, police said.

Police said they have the name of a suspect, but were not releasing it pending further investigation into the cause of the fight.

There were several potential witnesses to the stabbing in the parking lot and police are asking anyone with information to call them at 304-267-0001 and ask for Trooper Roden. Tips also may be e-mailed to wvtroopers@wvstatepolice.com.
