Alice V. Varner, 101

MAUGANSVILLE - Alice V. Varner, 101, of Maugansville and formerly of Johnstown, Pa., died Thursday, May 22, 2008, at Charlotte's Home.

Born Sept. 15, 1906, in Johnstown, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Emily Ellis Rogers.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Varner.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, while living in Johnstown.

She is survived by one son, Roger P. Varner of Hagerstown; one sister, Frances Sedlemeyer of Richland, Pa.; four grandchildren, Roger P. Varner Jr., George Varner, Susan Mummert and Travis Varner; three great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, George W. Varner; seven sisters; three brothers and one great-granddaughter.

Services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Moskal and Kennedy Colonial Funeral Home in Johnstown. The Rev. Douglas R. Blakelock will officiate. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.




Anna V, Jones, 96

Anna V. Jones, 96, of Julia Manor Nursing Center in Hagerstown, died Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at the center.

Born in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late William O. Wilson and Margaret Wilson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey T. Jones.

She was a member of Zion Baptist Church in Hagerstown.

She is survived by five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by one daughter at birth, Connie; two sons, James and William; three sisters; and three brothers.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Zion Baptist Church in Hagerstown. The Rev. Haru Carter will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Zion Baptist Church, Memorial Fund, 61 W. Bethel St., Hagerstown, MD 21701.

Estelle B. Hammi, 87

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Estelle B. "Stella" Hammi, 87, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, May 22, 2008.

Born Nov. 18, 1920, she was the daughter of the late William H. Williams and Sadie Williams.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Hammi.

She is survived by one son, Charles J. Brown Jr. of Baltimore; three grandchildren, Lynn Holmes and Charline Brown, both of Shepherdstown, W.Va., and C.J. Brown of Virginia Beach, Va.; three great-grandchildren; one niece; and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred Williams; and three brothers, Albert Williams, Frankie Williams and Lawrence Williams.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Home in Martinsburg. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Memory Gardens in Martinsburg.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.




June Marie A. Wallech, 60

Loving mother and sister, June Marie Arvin Wallech, 60, of Hagerstown, Md., died Thursday, May 22, 2008, at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, Md.

Born Sept. 9, 1947, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Edgar Harry and Louella May Griffith Arvin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice W. (Butch) Wallech Jr., on Jan. 20, 2008.

She was previously employed with the Washington County Board of Education in food services and custodial services at Salem Avenue and Winter Street schools.

She was the loving mother of one son, Brandon W. Wallech of Hagerstown; and the loving sister of Shirley L. Hilliard of Williamsport, Md., Margaret B. (Peggy) Harbaugh of Falling Waters, W.Va., Barbara A. Handwerk and husband, Al, of Norristown, Pa., Donna L. Smith and husband, Kenny, of Martinsburg, W.Va., Linda L. Boward and husband, Bobby, of Hagerstown, Sharon C. Mackereth and husband, Larry, of Hagerstown; also the loving sister of Wayne E. Arvin of Williamsport, Richard Glenn Arvin, and wife, Betty, of Hagerstown and James G. Arvin and wife, Vern, of Williamsport, Pa.; she's also survived by niece, Mandy House and family of Maugansville, Md.; nephew, Ronald (Pork) Wallech and family of Hagerstown; and several additional nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law, Darlena Wallech and Clara Wallech, both of Hagerstown.

She was preceded in death by her stepmother, Pauline I. Arvin.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. Pastor Dr. Daris Ford will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
