SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -- Waynesboro senior Terrell Rickard successfully defended his PIAA Class AAA state title in the boys high jump Saturday, clearing 6 feet, 10 inches to win the event for the second straight year.

Rickard edged three others who cleared 6-9 for the gold.

Indians senior Aaron McKenzie finished sixth in the boys shot put with a throw of 54 feet, 6 1/2 inches. McDowell's Dan Kwiatkowski won with his mark of 64-1.

Chambersburg senior Armond Perez finished eighth in the Class AAA boys javelin, throwing 191 feet. Central Dauphin's Justin Shirk won at 221-3.

In girls competition, Trojans junior Anyssa Barbour finished third in the Class AAA girls 100-meter dash in 12.13 seconds, and fourth in the 200-meter dash in 25.08. Woodland Hills' Cambrya Jones won the 100 in 11.97 and CR South's Ije Iheoma won the 200 in 24.17.



Martinsburg 9, Buckhannon-Upshur 3

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. -- Zach Woolcock hit a three-run homer to highlight a five-run sixth inning as Martinsburg beat Buckhannon-Upshur in the West Virginia Class AAA Region II title game on Friday.

With two outs in the top of the sixth, Ryan Bennett stroked a two-run double -- Martinsburg's first hit of the game -- to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead. After an intentional walk to Brandon King, Woolcock followed with his homer to left field for a 5-1 advantage.

Kam Puller had a three-run double in Martinsburg's four-run seventh inning to put the game far out of reach.

The Bulldogs (26-11) will face Nitro at 10 a.m. Friday in the state semifinals at Appalachian Power Park in Charleston.
