MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A Virginia man was arrested Thursday night and faces child neglect and drug charges after an 8-year-old boy was found crying because he apparently couldn't find his father at a Martinsburg motel, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court records.
Irvin Jayoine Lee Baker, 28, of Herndon, Va., was charged with two counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance (marijuana and crack cocaine) and child neglect, according to court records.
Baker also was determined to be a fugitive from justice by authorities in Frederick and Loudoun counties in Virginia, according to court records.
Magistrate Jim Humphrey set a $100,000 cash-only bond for Baker, who was in Eastern Regional Jail on Friday night.
Police said the boy was left in a motel room at the Relax Inn with narcotics and a dog, according to a complaint filed against the defendant by West Virginia State Police Trooper J.D. Schuessler. Officials told police the child had been crying for 30 minutes or more and looking around the hotel for his father.
