NEWVILLE, Pa. -- Danni Miller's two-run home run in the top of the eighth inning lifted Waynesboro past Central Dauphin 2-0 Friday in the PIAA District 3-AAAA quarterfinals at Heishman Complex.

With one out, Amanda Gray was hit by a pitch. Autumn Phillips' sacrifice bunt moved Gray to second with two outs before Miller homered for the 2-0 lead.

Taryn Ashway struck out 14 without a walk to earn the eight-inning shutout for the Maidens (22-2), who will play either Solanco or Central York in the semifinals on Tuesday at a site and time to be announced. Waynesboro earns a spot into the state tournament with at least a third-place finish in the district.

Greencastle 4, Muhlenberg 3

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Rochelle Christman had three hits and two RBIs as Greencastle-Antrim beat Muhlenberg in the quarterfinals of the PIAA District 3-AAA playoffs.


Rachel Statler had two hits and two RBIs and Autumn Appleby (12-2) pitched a five-hitter with eight strikeouts for the Blue Devils (19-4).

Muhlenberg's Brianne Huey, who had two hits and two RBIs, was at the plate with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning. With a full count, Appleby got Huey to pop out to end the game.

Greencastle will face either Twin Valley or Susquehannock in the semifinals Tuesday at a site and time to be determined.

Southern Fulton 9, Meyersdale 2

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. -- Keena Elbin had three hits, drove in three runs and stole two bases, and the Indians jumped on Meyersdale early in a PIAA District 5-A first-round victory.

Southern Fulton (14-6) scored four runs in the first inning, including Brooke Whiteside's RBI triple, Kelly Elbin's RBI double and Taylor Leasure's two-run single.

Kelly Elbin finished with two hits and three RBIs, and she also pitched a complete game with one walk and six strikeouts. Leasure finished with three RBIs.

The Indians will face Fannett-Metal in a semifinal game at McConnellsburg on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.


Mid-Penn All-Stars

Three Waynesboro players were named to the Mid-Penn Conference's All-Capital Division first team, while Maidens coach Brian Flickinger was named the divison's coach of the year.

Freshman forward Michel Sanders, sophomore forward Leann Sebalb and junior defender Hannah Masters are Waynesboro's first-team selections, while Maidens Molly Sanders and Katie Sandifer are on the second team.

For Greencastle-Antrim, junior forward Caroline Gleason and senior goalkeeper Whitney Nave are on the first team, while Blue Devils Keri Stouffer and Kaytie Johnson are on the second team.

Freshman forward Taylor Amsley is on the first team for James Buchanan, while Anna Angle and Courtney Bernecker are on the second team.

Chambersburg junior Lexi Logan is on the All-Commonwealth Division first team, while the Trojans' Megan Butz is on the second team.
