Local bills signed by governor

May 24, 2008|By ANDREW SCHOTZ

Gov. Martin O'Malley's fourth and final bill-signing ceremony included legislation sponsored by Washington County's representatives.

O'Malley signed dozens of bills on Thursday in Annapolis.

Among them were three sponsored by Del. Richard B. Weldon Jr., R-Frederick/Washington.

One creates a preferential state contract system for people with disabilities, similar to the existing program for minorities.

A second bill expanded eligibility in a preference procurement program within the Department of General Services.

The third bill streamlines the Medicaid approval process for long-term medical care.

A bill sponsored by Del. John P. Donoghue, D-Washington, also was signed Thursday. It expands the authority of pharmacists to administer vaccinations.

A fifth local bill raises the expense limit from $25,000 to $50,000 before Washington County must put contracts out to bid. The Washington County delegation sponsored that bill.
