Suns walk away with win in 11th

May 24, 2008

The Hagerstown Suns had 18 hits, but didn't need any one of them to defeat Lexington on Friday.

Michael Burgess drew a bases-loaded walk off reliever Fernando Abad with one out in the 11th inning to give the Suns a walk-off, come-from-behind 8-7 victory over the Legends before 3,956 fans at Municipal Stadium.

Hagerstown came back from a 7-5 deficit with runs in the eighth and ninth innings to force extra innings.

Bill Rhinehart and Aaron Seuss each singled off Lexington's Jordan Powell with one out in the 11th. Powell was lifted for Abad after walking Stephen King to load the bases.

Burgess greeted Abad with the game-winning walk.

The Suns took a 2-0 lead in the first on Rhinehart's two-run homer to right off Lexington starter Leandro Cespedes. Seuss helped Hagerstown regain the lead at 4-3 in the third with his sixth homer.

Lexington scored a run in the fifth and three in the sixth to take a 7-4 lead. Burgess' RBI single in the sixth, Jake Smolinski's grounder in the eighth and King's single in the ninth allowed the Suns to tie the game.

Kyle Gunderson got the win by pitching the 11th. Rhinehart and King each had four hits.
