Fight erupts after teens pull fire alarm at Hagerstown apartment building

May 23, 2008

Police and fire officials responded to West Antietam Street on Thursday for a report of a fight and fire alarms being pulled.

The incident began about 6:30 p.m. when some teenagers pulled a fire alarm in the St. Charles Place building at 64 W. Antietam St., Hagerstown Police Department Lt. Timothy Wolford said. The teens then began spraying a fire extinguisher at the Dagmar Hotel at 50 Summit Ave., Wolford said.

Their actions prompted a disturbance outside the building, Wolford said.

A woman standing in front of St. Charles Place, across from The Herald-Mail, was screaming at a young man as other young people stood and watched.

The woman picked up a scooter, threw it in the street and continued to yell. The young man put up his fists, as if to fight.

Then, the woman and the young man punched each other on the sidewalk across the street.

Within a few minutes, Hagerstown Police and firefighters arrived to respond to the fire alarm and the block was closed to traffic while they investigated.
