A Jefferson County man was killed Thursday night in an all-terrain vehicle accident in Shannondale, according to a West Virginia State Police press release.

William Stillions, 20, of Kearneysville, W.Va., was pronounced dead by emergency responders who found the man about 14 feet off Shenandoah River Drive a little more than two miles west of Mission Road, First Sgt. E.D. Burnett said.

Stillions died as a result of a head injury received in the crash, which State Police Cpl. K.W. Martin responded to at 10:35 p.m., Burnett said.

Stillions and passenger Brandan Corbin, 22, of Charles Town, were thrown from the vehicle after it went off the right side of the road when the victim appeared to lose control of the ATV as they were traveling west, Burnett said.

Corbin was not injured, Burnett said.

Neither rider was wearing a helmet, Burnett said.

The accident still was under investigation, Burnett said.
