FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. -Concerns about the global environment, the high cost of transporting produce across country, interest in purchasing fresh produce within a 50-mile radius and a growth in the interest in organically-grown food, led to the creation of the new Penn National Farmers Market which opens today, near Penn National Golf Center at Orchard Drive and Pa. 997.
Local farmers and growers will sell their produce at the Farmers Market on Thursdays from 2 to 6 p.m., giving consumers the opportunity to meet the individuals who grow the food.
Boutique cheeses, locally-cultivated berries, vine-ripened fruits and vegetables plucked from the fields only hours before will be among the products offered. Free-range chickens, turkeys and lambs grazed on nearby hillsides will provide area residents with some of the best the region has to offer.
The Penn National Farmers Market shares a parking lot with Penn National's Golf Center.
Carole Malin is market manager.
