Williamsport Elementary principal, assistant principal make good on 'dares'

May 21, 2008

A PTA-sponsored walk-athon at Williamsport Elementary School on April 25 raised more than $5,000 that the PTA will use to provide programs and resources at the school.

All students participated in a 1-mile walk around the school and those who had raised at least $25 in donations were able to submit a "dare" request to principal Jana Palmer and assistant principal Erin Wolford.

Palmer and Wolford honored a number of the requests, including singing on the roof, singing the "Chicken Dance" song, eating worms (gummi worms), singing "Yankee Doodle Dandy" while parading down the hall, and allowing students to color their hair in rainbow colors, while also coloring their own hair in similar style.

Palmer joked, "Erin and I made complete fools of ourselves for a great cause and I know the PTA will put the contributions to good use. Plus, this will provide the students a good understanding of the word payback ... at least for the ones who were laughing hardest!"
