Air Force Airman Leon M. Souders, son of William Souders of Boonsboro, and Pamela Perez of Cascade, has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.

Souders earned distinction as an honor graduate.

Souders is a 2007 graduate of Smithsburg High School.

Navy Seaman Recruit Delante C. Sample, son of Terecia A. and stepson of Thomas M. Carpenter of Kearneysville, W. Va., recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Sample is a 2007 graduate of Martinsburg (W.Va.) High School.

Civilian John F. McCormick, son of Carolyn E. Fordham of Cassville, Pa., and John F. McCormick of Boonsboro, recently enlisted in the United States Navy under the delayed entry program at Navy Recruiting District, Pittsburgh, Pa.

McCormick will report for active duty to undergo basic training at the Navy's Recruit Training Center, Great Lakes, Ill.

McCormick is a 2007 graduate of Chambersburg (Pa.) Area Senior High School.

Navy Reserve Seaman Amanda C. Rice, daughter of Jane M. and Richard C. Rice of Greencastle, Pa., recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Rice is a 2002 graduate of James Buchanan High School in Mercersburg, Pa.

Air Force Airman 1st Class Nicolas A. Middendorff, son of Allen Middendorff of Kelbaugh Road, Thurmont, Md., has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.

Middendorff graduated in 2003 from Gov. Thomas Johnson High School, Frederick, Md., and received an associate degree in 2006 from Frederick Community College.

Aeriel M. Jennings, son of Melissa K. Fant of Sylacauga, Ala., and Douglas D. Jennings of Ijamsville, Md., has joined the United States Army under the delayed entry program. The program gives young men and women the opportunity to delay entering active duty for up to one year.

Jennings, attending Childersburg (Ala.) High School, and will report to Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., for basic training in July.
