Crews work around the clock to fix hole, sewer line at Hagerstown intersection

May 21, 2008|By JOSHUA BOWMAN

A 20-foot-by-15-foot hole opened Sunday at the intersection of Virginia Avenue and Massey Boulevard, Washington County Administrator Gregory B. Murray told the County Commissioners Tuesday.

Crews from C. William Hetzer have been working around the clock to repair the hole and replace a sewer line that collapsed into the hole.

The Washington County Commissioners on Tuesday approved emergency funding for a contract awarded to Hetzer for the work, which is estimated to cost $50,000 to $60,000.

Traffic is moving through the intersection using the turning lane, Murray said Tuesday.

Washington County Public Works Director Joseph Kroboth III said Tuesday that he hoped the work would be finished late Tuesday.
