Garrett Calvin "Hank" Mills Sr., 82

CLEAR SPRING, Md. - Garrett Calvin "Hank" Mills Sr., age 82, formerly of Clear Spring, and a resident of the Homewood Retirement Center, died Monday, May 19, 2008, at the home.

Born Sept. 18, 1925, in Williamsport, Md., he was the son of the late Garrett C. Mills and Sallie Swandol Mills.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Helser Mills, in 1984.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during WWII. He was a member of the Joseph C. Herbert American Legion Post 222 of Clear Spring, the Clarence Armstrong VFW of Mercersburg, Pa., AMVETS Post 10 of Hagerstown and the Williamsport Red Men Lodge.


He was the owner and operator of the Shady Bower Sunoco of Clear Spring for 49 years.

He is survived by a daughter, Donna K. Gruber and husband Gary of Clear Spring; two sons, Garrett C. Mills and wife Shirley of Clear Spring, and Michael J. Mills of Hagerstown; one sister, Carole Nichols of Clear Spring; four grandchildren, April Shupp, Jay Mills, Katherine Schnebly and Brittany Gruber, all of Clear Spring; and four great-grandchildren, Brenna Mills, Chloe Mills, Ella Shupp and Blake Shupp, all of Clear Spring.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Freda Trumpower, and two brothers, Charles E. Mills Sr. and Phillip L. Mills.

There will be no viewing or visitation. Private burial will be held at the St. Paul Cemetery, Clear Spring, at the convenience of the family.

A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, May 23, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the St. Paul Church, Clear Spring. The Rev. Dennis Whitmore will officiate.

Dorothy L. Miley, 66

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Dorothy L. Miley, 66, of Sycamore Grove Road, died Sunday, May 18, 2008, at her home.

Born Feb. 11, 1942, in Loysville, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Sara E. Purnell Laman.

Her husband of 38 years, Harry L. Miley, died May 20, 1999.

She had been employed at the former J. Schoeneman Company in Chambersburg from 1962 until her retirement in 1997.

She was Protestant.

She is survived by two children, Lisa S. Dewey of Augusta, W.Va., and Russell S. Miley of Shippensburg, Pa.; two sisters, Janice Miller of Fayetteville, Pa., and Carolyn Hobble of Waynesboro, Pa.; three brothers, Richard Laman of Greencastle, Pa., James Laman of Waynesboro and Steven Laman of Chambersburg; three grandsons; two great-granddaughters; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Laman, and two brothers, Thomas and Edwin Laman.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Agett-Geisel Funeral Home, Dry Run, Pa. The Rev. Marlin A. Neil will officiate. Burial will follow in Upper Path Valley Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour before services Thursday.

Florence M. Young, 94

WELLS TANNERY, Pa. - Florence M. Young, 94, of Wells Tannery, died Sunday, May 18, 2008, at Fulton County Medical Center Extended Care Unit, McConnellsburg, Pa.

Born Jan. 16, 1914, in Wells Tannery, she was the daughter of the late Lamberth E. and Elsie G. Baumgardner Ford.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy M. Truax. Her second husband, David H. Young, died April 23, 2001.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Wells Tannery Presbyterian Church, where she played the organ.

She was a member of Eastern Star in Warren, Ohio.

Se is survived by brothers, Pete Ford, John Ford and Paul Ford, all of Wells Tannery; one niece; six nephews; and grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Nancy L Truax; two sisters, Violet Yount and Ethel Thomas; and one brother, Teddy Ford.

Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Wells Tannery Presbyterian Church. Pastor Dick Bernhard will officiate. Burial will be in Wells Tannery Presbyterian Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church.

Arrangements are by Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, McConnellsburg.

Ann J. Ambrosio, 84

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Ann J. Ambrosio, 84, formerly of 2765 Filmore Drive, Chambersburg, died Saturday, May 17, 2008, in Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born Nov. 3, 1923, in Newark, N.J., she was a daughter of the late Felix D. and Maria Theresa Lanzetta DelMauro.

Her husband, John D. Ambrosio, died in December 1972.

She was last employed with the Food Service Department of Chambersburg Area School District, retiring in the fall of 1983.

She was a member of Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church in Shippensburg, Pa.

She was active with the local AARP chapter in Chambersburg.
