Memorial Day

Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 will hold its Memorial Day service on Sunday at 2 p.m. in front of the Washington County Courthouse on West Washington Street.

Music will be played starting at 1:30 p.m., followed by the laying of wreaths in memory of all deceased veterans. Following the wreath laying, State Sen. Donald F. Munson, R-Washington, will make a presentation, along with Mayor Robert E. Bruchey II.

A gun salute will be given by the Post 42 Honor Guard. Any organization that would like to lay a wreath in memory of its deceased veterans can call Post Adjutant Ruthanna Ungvarsky at 301-733-7676. The Legion asks that participants come to the courthouse at 1:30 p.m. A reception will follow the ceremony at Post 42 at 405 Northern Ave., Hagerstown. The public is invited to attend.

Ladies Night Out

St. Ann Roman Catholic Church will hold its sixth annual Ladies Night Out Thursday in the Parish Center from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m,

The event will include dinner and speaker Nancy McGuirk, a local author, who will talk about her own "Journey of Faith." Tickets cost $12. To register, call Karen Gullace at 301-733-0410, ext 21.

St. Maria Goretti

St. Maria Goretti High School will hold Senior Night Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Graduation will be held at St. Ann Church on Saturday at 1 p.m.

TOPS Chapter 77

On May 11, TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 77 presented awards for the month of April.

Vallerie lost 11 1/4 pounds to be the Division I winner. Emma Jean lost 5 pounds to be the Division II winner.

Millie, Valerie, Emma Jean and Rosemary each had perfect attendance with no gains for the month. The Shining Stars were Janice Frye and Deloris Hays.

Joan Budny was given a charm for being halfway to her goal.

Sue was welcomed to the chapter as a new member.

For the past couple of weeks, the group has been collecting items to send to Iraq. Two of the members have a son and grandson serving. The chapter sent five boxes to these soldiers to be distributed among the troops.

TOPS Chapter 446

TOPS Chapter 446 members are so happy for Jeanne for having lost for seven weeks in a row.

By sharing and hugs, group members help lift each other up and over the rough times.

At Wednesday's meeting, group leader Mary plans to talk about "Motivators Move" and fitness. Anyone interested is welcome to attend.

TOPS 308

Best TOPS loser for April was Judy with 7 pounds lost. KOPS (Keep Pounds Off Sensibly) best loser for April was Stan with 2.25 pounds. Stan received his KOPS pin for 15 consecutive years. Mary had 14 years.

The program for May 2 was on high blood pressure. Judy made a great presentation.

The program for May 9 was on laparoscopic gastric bypass given by June, whose daughter Kim had it done three weeks ago and lost 22 pounds. Kim was there to answer questions about the procedure.

Cruise-ins

The Hub City Cruise-ins are held the first and third Saturdays of each month at Long Meadow Shopping Center to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation of Maryland.

Registration is $2 per car. The cruise-ins will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. with a 50/50 raffle to be drawn at 8:30 p.m. For more information, e-mail dwallech@netzero.net.

NHHS Class of '73

Mark your calendars, pack your bags and make your reservations to join the North Hagerstown High class of 1973 in celebration of its 35th class reunion.

The reunion is scheduled for Oct. 4 at the Sheraton Four Points on Dual Highway.
