May 19, 2008

The second game of the NJCAA Division I Eastern District baseball finals between Hagerstown Community College and Pitt (N.C.) Community College was postponed on Sunday, giving the Hawks one more night to sleep on its one-game lead.

Game 2 of the best-of-3 series will be played today at noon at HCC, with the Hawks (39-16) holding a 1-0 lead in the series.

If Pitt (40-14) wins Game 2, the decisive game of the series will be played 20 minutes later.

The winner of the series earns a berth in the NJCAA Division I World Series, which begins Saturday in Grand Junction, Colo.

The Eastern District winner will play its first World Series game Sunday at 9:30 EDT against Grayson County (Texas) College.

The Eastern District champion will be the last of 14 to be crowned.

The Hawks won the topsy-turvy first game in the series Saturday afternoon 5-4 as Spencer Cromer threw his first complete game of the season.

HCC has won 18 of its last 22 games. Pitt had to win six games in five days last week just to get to this point.
