Man's body found on train tracks in W.Va.

May 18, 2008

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. -- West Virginia State Police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found Friday night on the railroad tracks between Flowing Springs Road and W.Va. 9, according to a state police press release.

Police said a CSX engineer called Jefferson County emergency headquarters at 11:38 p.m., telling the dispatcher that he had seen a body lying within the tracks. Trooper J.C. Moon was sent to the scene, where he found the body of the man west of Flowing Springs Road just before midnight.

The body had not been identified as of Saturday, police said. The body was removed from the tracks and sent to Charleston for an autopsy, police said.

The train was a local that travels between Brunswick, Md., and Millville, W.Va., CSX spokesman Gary Sease said. As of Saturday, the railroad had no more information about the incident other than what was released by police, he said.
