HCC runners earn All-American honors

LEVELLAND, Texas -- Jordan Atha placed 10th in the 1,500-meter run in 5:07.99 and Lindsey Hollenshead was 13th in the 5,000 at 19:24.56 for Hagerstown Community College at the NJCAA Division I Championships at South Plains College on Saturday.

Hollenshead, who placed ninth in the 10,000 on Thursday, was the third American in her race Saturday. Atha was the fifth American in her race, as both HCC runners earned Coaches' Association All-American status.

FitzGerald wins Fort Detrick 10K

FREDERICK, Md. -- Mike FitzGerald of Hagerstown was the overall champion at the Fort Detrick 10K in 38:30.

Beverly Black of Boonsboro was the women's winner.

Grier misses cut

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Hagerstown's Ashley Grier, after an opening-round 1-over-par 73, dropped to an 11-over-par 82 in the second round of the Duramed Futures Mercedes-Benz of Kansas City Golf Classic.

In a tie for 14th place after the first round, Grier dropped to 86th and missed the cut for today's final round.

Rotz, LSU miss finals

BREMERTON, Wash. -- Chambersburg graduate Clayton Rotz, a freshman at Louisiana State University, shot a third-round 2-over-par 74 in the NCAA West Regionals for an overall 231 and a tie for 97th place.

As a team, LSU had 916 strokes for 22nd place. The top 10 teams qualified for the NCAA finals.
