Character Counts!

Sharpsburg Elementary School staff selected six students as the April Character Counts! winners.

The winning students are Randy Wellons, Marina Hamilla, Barry Wright, Stacie Hahn, Hayden Elmy and Hannah Knight.

The winners were drawn from the many students who were observed displaying all or one of the Character Counts! traits of responsibility, respect, caring, fairness, trustworthiness and citizenship.

Hospice seminar

St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Keedysville will present a free Hospice information seminar Thursday at 7 p.m. at the church.

Patricia Smith, community relations liaison for Hospice, will be providing information concerning Hospice of Washington County and answering questions.

The public is invited. Light refreshments will be served. The church is at 53 N. Main St., Keedysville.

Cemetery donations

The donation drive for the maintenance of the Samples Manor Church of God Cemetery will be held Saturday and Sunday, May 24 and 25, from 8 a.m. to dusk at the cemetery.

Holiday service

Samples Manor Church of God will hold a Memorial Day service Sunday, May 25, at 2:30 p.m.

Pastor Kenny Johnson will preach, with music by Guilford Station Bluegrass Gospel. Admission is free. The public is welcome. For more information, call 301-834-8694 or 301-432-8359. The church is at 2128 Harpers Ferry Road. at the intersection of Harpers Ferry and Chestnut Grove roads.

Birdwatching

Join biologists Doug Ruby and Chris Eberly for birdwatching today and Saturday.

This evening, birders will gather at Shepherd's Spring on Taylors Landing Road to listen to the evening bird song and plan the day for Saturday. Bring your sleeping bag and stay in the cabins so you're ready for the early- morning chorus of birds. Three meals on Saturday will be included as the group walks the grounds and along the C &O Canal discovering our feathered friends. Overnight cost is $40; $25 for the day only on Saturday. Spaghetti dinner

Bethel United Methodist Church in Rohrersville will hold an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the church. The church is on the corner of Main Street and Schoolhouse Road in Rohrersville.

Lions Club

The Sharpsburg Lions Club will conduct a highway cleanup and yard sale this weekend.

The Sharpsburg Lions meet the first and third Thursdays of each month at their Lions Den at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 209 W. Main St., Sharpsburg.

Senior site

Helen House will speak on "10 Reasons to Get Active" and conduct exercises Tuesday at the senior site in Keedysville. Tom Day will also conduct "Issues and Answers" Tuesday at 11 a.m. Mary Gehr will conduct blood pressure screenings Monday at 10 a.m. The Southeastern Senior Site for senior activities is at the Little Antietam Community Center, 40 Mt.
