Violet M. Hovermale, 75



AUG. 25, 1932 - MAY 14, 2008

Violet Mae Hovermale, 75, formerly of Clear Spring, and a resident of Julia Manor Nursing Center, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at the home.

Born Aug. 25, 1932, in Clear Spring, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Hillard Mills and Arrietta I. Hull Mills.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Lee Hovermale, in 2004.

She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Clear Spring.

She was a former member of Clear Spring Ambulance Club.

She provided private home care nursing.

She is survived by three sons, Richard Hovermale of Fort Ashby, W.Va.; Victor Hovermale of Tacoma, Wash., and Michael Hovermale of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; and several grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home, Clear Spring. The Rev. Elaine Swinehart will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.




Evelyn E. Driscoll, 83

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Evelyn E. Driscoll, 83, of 1542 Palm Spring Drive, died Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Nov. 26, 1924, in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Elizabeth Wilson Kennedy.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of VFW Post 9619 Ladies Auxiliary of Silver Hill, Md.

She is survived by her husband, Allen B. Driscoll, whom she married June 10, 1948; two sons, Edward P. Driscoll of Thurmont, Md., and William D. Driscoll Sr. of Chambersburg; one brother, Dennis Kennedy of Florida; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one stepgranddaughter; and one stepgreat-grandson.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Kennedy; and one brother, Donald Kennedy.

Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home in Chambersburg. The Rev. James R. O'Brien will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.




Cecilia M. Twilley, 84



FEB. 24, 1924-MAY 13, 2008

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Cecilia M. "Cis" Twilley, 84, of Harpers Ferry, died Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at her home.

Born Feb. 24, 1924, in Green Bay, Wis., she was the daughter of the late Vern L. and Evelyn Wagner Hall.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Millard H. Twilley, in 2001.

She retired as a secretary from the Fairfax County, Va., government.

She was a Christian.

She is survived by two daughters, JoAnn L. Ash of Harpers Ferry and Theresa A. Wiltrout of Woodsboro, Md.; five grandchildren, Kelsey M. Wiltrout, Jaclyn M. Petersen, Corey T. Ash, Scott Wiltrout and Ross Wiltrout; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be Friday, May 23, at 5 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town, W.Va. Chaplain Doug Knupp will officiate.

Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends Friday, May 23, from 4 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 122 Waverly Court, Martinsburg, WV 25403.




Mary V. Alvaro, 69



FEB. 15, 1939-MAY 13, 2008

WILLIAMSPORT - Mary V. Alvaro, 69, of West Salisbury Street, Williamsport, Md., died Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro, Md.

Born Feb. 15, 1939, in Cumberland, Md., she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Violet (Sirbaugh) Horn.

She was a 1957 graduate of Fort Hill High School.

She was employed by Potomac Liquors in Hagerstown, Md., for 25 years.

She was a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Williamsport.

She is survived by daughter Jacqueline A. Smith and husband, D.J., of Hagerstown, son Robert W. (Bob) Alvaro, Jr. and fiancee, Pam Nichols, of Hagerstown, brother Ronald Horn and wife, Carol, of Cumberland, grandchildren Holly M. Alvaro, Todd W. Bowser Jr. and Hillary L. Alvaro and several nieces.

She was preceded in death by one sister.

There will be no viewing.

A memorial service will be held Friday, May 16, 2008, at 2 p.m. from the St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 10813 Donelson Drive, Williamsport, MD 21795 with Rev. Mark A. Sandell officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the burial fund for Mary, in care of Jackie Smith at 17926 Garden Lane, Hagerstown, MD 21740.

Arrangements were made by the J.L. Davis Funeral Home in Smithsburg, Md.




Victor C. Lupis Sr., 79

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Victor Carmen Lupis Sr., 79, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at Winchester Medical Center.

Born April 8, 1929, in Reggio de Calabria, Italy, he was the son of the late Frank Lupis and Teresa Argiro Lupis.

His wife, Alice E. Lupis, preceded him in death.

He was owner and operator of the former One Hour Quality Cleaners in Martinsburg for more than 30 years.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.

He was a former member of the American Legion, Moose Lodge and Sons of Italy.
