'Death Note' has limited local run

May 15, 2008

A live-action movie based on a Japanese manga will play a two-day run at Valley Mall next week.

"Death Note" is scheduled to be shown at the Regal Valley Mall 16 Cinemas in Hagerstown at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20, and Wednesday, May 21. The film is not rated, but the film's Web site, www.fathomevents.com, equates it to an R rating. The film is in Japanese and dubbed in English.

The story is about Light Yagami, an ace student with great prospects, who finds a notebook dropped by a rogue death god. Any human whose name is written in the notebook dies, and Light uses the notebook to rid the world of evil. But when criminals mysteriously begin dropping dead, the police get involved. Light re-evaluates his good intentions.
