Preliminary hearing for Chambersburg man charged with killing ex-employer is continued

May 14, 2008

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The preliminary hearing for Scott Nathan North, charged with criminal homicide in the 2006 death of his former employer, has been continued to June 3, according to the Franklin County District Attorney's Office.

North, 27, of Chambersburg, has been assigned a defense attorney by the court, Assistant District Attorney Angela Krom said.

North is charged in the August 2006 death of 43-year-old Carl Ryder of Amberson, Pa., whose body was found dumped along a roadside in Huntingdon County two weeks after North had walked away from a work release assignment in Shippensburg, Pa.

Pennsylvania State Police last week charged North with Ryder's murder.

North had been charged separately in Franklin County with escape. Krom said that charge has been dismissed, but that it and other charges related to the death of Ryder could be filed in the near future.
