Northbound Interstate 81 again restricted to one lane north of Chambersburg

May 14, 2008

SCOTLAND, Pa. - Interstate 81 has again been restricted to one lane of travel northbound near the bridge between Exit 17 and Exit 20 in Pennsylvania.

I-81 was limited to one lane at 7 a.m. Tuesday and will remain restricted 24 hours a day until late Thursday, according to a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation news release.

PennDOT warned that traffic backups might be substantial while maintenance crews repair an expansion joint on the bridge.

Also, the bridge that takes Mason Dixon Road over Interstate 81 in State Line, Pa., will be closed for at least two months.

Traffic will be detoured onto Williamsport Pike, Milnor Road and U.S. 11, a PennDOT spokesman said.

J.D. Eckman Inc. of Atglen, Pa., was awarded a $7.5 million contract to repair 11 bridges over I-81. The Mason Dixon Road one was included in that, according to PennDOT.
