Williamsport 7, Catoctin 5

THURMONT, Md. -- Adam Plume, Andrew Duff and A.J. Jamison each hit a home run and Williamsport stunned Catoctin in the Class 1A West first round.

The Wildcats (6-12) went 1-9 in the MVAL Antietam this season, while the Cougars (13-8) went 9-1 and tied Clear Spring for the conference title. None of that mattered Tuesday.

Plume led off the game with his home run, and Duff added a three-run shot in the second inning as Williamsport scored five runs in the frame for a 6-2 lead.


Jamison's solo home run in the fifth capped the Wildcats' scoring. Jamison's .596 regular-season average broke a 46-year-old school record held by Jimmy Benedict, who hit .592 in 1962.

Brian Braswell had a two-run single in the second inning and Andrew Likely doubled for the Wildcats, who will travel to Smithsburg for today's 1A West quarterfinal contest at 4 p.m.

Boonsboro 5, Brunswick 1

BRUNSWICK, Md. -- Seth Pendergraft had three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored while striking out six batters to lead Boonsboro over Brunswick (14-7) in the Class 1A West quarterfinals.

Cody Snavley had three hits and scored two runs, while Eli Beard added with three hits and an RBI. John Shobe drove in two runs for the Warriors (11-9).

Chambersburg 9, Greencastle 0

DILLSBURG, Pa. -- Seth Eby had three hits and an RBI and Tyler McDonald drove in three runs to lead Chambersburg to a victory in the Mid-Penn Conference semifinals. Jared Shelly and Zach Helm each had two RBIs for the Trojans (14-7), while Calvin Mentzer pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts.

Mercersburg Academy 4, Riverdale Baptist 2

MERCERSBURG, Pa. -- Christian Binford recorded 12 strikeouts to lead Mercersburg Academy over Riverdale Baptist.

Chris Freeland had two hits and two RBIs for the Blue Storm (15-6).

Heritage Academy 9, Grace Academy 8

Travis Barthalow had four hits, including a two-run homer, to help Heritage Academy (10-3) edge Grace Academy in the first round of the MDCC Tournament.

Sean Koontz, Brandon Hess, Ben Barnett and Zach Morgan each had three hits for Grace (6-8).

Southern Fulton 8, Forbes Road 7

HUSTONTOWN, Pa. -- Dylan Whiteside had three hits, three RBIs and scored three runs to lead Southern Fulton over Forbes Road.

Jesse Smartt had three hits and scored two runs, while Jeremy Clingerman had two hits and two RBIs. Justin Berkstresser also had two hits and an RBI for the Indians (9-7).


Francis Scott Key 6, North Hagerstown 2

UNION BRIDGE, Md. -- Alyssa Collier had two hits, including a triple, but North Hagerstown fell to Francis Scott Key in a Maryland Class 2A West quarterfinal.

Destanie Agee added two hits for the Hubs (10-12).

Clarksburg 6, South Hagerstown 0

CLARKSBURG, Md. -- Desiree Giffin and Sarah Mertz each had hits as South Hagerstown (7-13) fell to Clarksburg in a Maryland Class 2A West quarterfinal.

Waynesboro 9, Lower Dauphin 0

NEWVILLE, Pa. -- Taryn Ashway tossed a three-hit shutout -- her 12th of the season -- with 16 strikeouts as the Maidens advanced to the championship game of the Mid-Penn Tournament at the Heishman Complex.

Waynesboro (19-2) has handed Lower Dauphin (19-2) its only two losses this season. The Maidens will face Central Dauphin today at 6 p.m. at Heishman.

The Maidens scored twice in the fourth inning, then blew the game open with a seven-run sixth. Boo Kuhn and Katie Zak each hit two-run doubles, Hillary Rowe had a two-run single and Emily Masters drove in a run. Erin Lisko had two hits.


Broadfording 2, New Life 1

Courtney Campagna scored the game-winning goal in the second overtime to lift Broadfording over New Life in the first round of the MDCC Tournament.

Kristen Grimm scored on an assist by Hannah Young in the 78th minute to tie the game for the Lions.
