Around Funkstown

May has been wet

Good Tuesday morning to you! I had to do a double take and make sure that we are indeed into May and not still in April.

I know, I know, I am not complaining about the rain ... I am sure that at some point this summer we will need it. I will admit, however, to being a tad tired of it.

I will embrace the damp weather and move ahead to what we have going on.

AARP to meet

Do you need to get out of the house? The final meeting of the season for the AARP Chapter 623 is slated for today.

The location is Next Dimensions, right outside of Funkstown on Old National Pike. Guest speaker Jennifer Drawbaugh, from Equipped for Life, will educate and inform on a variety of topics.

The meeting starts at 1:30 p.m. Anyone interested should stop by and see about joining this active organization.

Volunteers to be honored

I do so adore volunteers! They are the ones who make things happen and make our communities better.

Emma K. Doub Elementary School will honor such volunteers at its annual volunteer luncheon on Tuedsay, May 20, from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Thanks to all those who helped throughout the school year by volunteering.

Band Boosters to meet Wednesday

More volunteers abound! The South Hagerstown High School Band Boosters membership meeting is Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the band room.

Please plan to attend as final preparations are being made for the yard sale and car wash set for Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the South Hagerstown High School parking lot. Spaces are still available for the yard sale, so if you are interested, call 301-733-9374 to reserve yours today.

Monument update

The passage of time is something that cannot be slowed. Before you know it, May will come to an end and the date for the refacing of the Funkstown War Memorial will be upon us.

So much time and dedicated work and money has already gone into getting the memorial back to its original luster. Please stop by Town Hall and help out with a small donation to get us to our goal.

Until next time

Thanks for taking the time to sit and visit with me again ... same time next week ... I'll bring the coffee!
