CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A Franklin County Jail escapee charged with criminal homicide in the death of his former employer is expected to be in county court for a preliminary hearing Tuesday.
Scott Nathan North, 27, was in court briefly Monday to appear on an escape charge. The commonwealth asked Judge Douglas Herman to accept that the escape charge be combined with the homicide case.
The defendant offered no objection, according to Assistant District Attorney Angela Krom.
North, who remains in jail, does not have legal counsel for the criminal homicide case, which developed after the decomposed body of Carl Ryder was found along a Huntingdon County, Pa., road in August 2006.
"The court is actively seeking representation for Mr. North," Krom said.
The body of Ryder, 43, of Amberson, Pa., was found several days after he was reported missing. North walked away from a work release assignment in Shippensburg, Pa., two weeks earlier.
