Washington County's high school baseball and softball teams will try to play their first-round playoff games again today after rain postponed all of Friday's action.

In Class 2A West baseball, North Hagerstown will now host Middletown today at 10 a.m. The game was scheduled to be played at Middletown originally, but was moved to North due to poor field conditions.

In Class 1A West baseball, Catoctin hosts Williamsport at 2 p.m. and Hancock plays at Boonsboro at 3.

In Class 2A West softball, North Hagerstown plays at Walkersville at 4 and South Hagerstown plays Northwood at Paint Branch High School at 4:30.

In Class 1A West softball, Catoctin plays at Hancock at noon, Brunswick hosts Smithsburg at 1 and Boonsboro hosts Northern Garrett at 3.



Smithsburg 5, Fort Hill 1

CUMBERLAND, Md. - Bobby Smith doubled twice to help Smithsburg defeat Fort Hill in the Maryland Class 1A West first round.

Taylor Metzger homered and Tim Peake drove in a run for the Leopards (6-13).


McConnellsburg 10, Goretti 5

Megan Eichelberger, Ashley Peck, Sam McQuade and Casey Pollock each had two hits to lead McConnellsburg over St. Maria Goretti.

Eichelberger had three RBIs and Peck had two RBIs for the Spartans (11-6).

Caroline Rosenthal struck out nine to lead the Gaels (10-11), while Katie Cronise, Alex Penn and Katie Marrama had two apiece.

Marrama drove in two runs with a double and Cronise also doubled.


New Life 3, Grace Academy 2

FREDERICK, Md. - Monique Sparks, Abby Rice and Annie Wright each scored a goal as New Life edged Grace Academy in overtime Thursday in the Mason Dixon Christian Conference.

Brielle Groves and Gabriella Durr each had a goal for the Knights (2-10).
