Greencastle-Antrim School District to vote on revised dress code

May 09, 2008

The Greencastle-Antrim School District will vote on a revised dress code at its next board meeting on May 15.

Board members will vote on the Student Code of Conduct for the 2008-09 school year, which includes a dress code calling for a neckline of 3 inches with no cleavage showing.

Those standards were discussed during a May 1 work session.

"It got to the point that we weren't getting anywhere," superintendent C. Gregory Hoover said. "After about 10 minutes, I stopped it, so this is what we're going to vote on. We'll see how it goes at the next meeting."

The dress code has been a topic of discussion since the Student Code of Conduct was presented in early April.

The school board also will continue to talk about ways to trim the 2008-09 budget at the May 15 meeting. Hoover said the initial millage rate increase of 4.7 could be cut by more than one mill.
