SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - A Franklin County man was charged this week by the Child Predator Unit of the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office with having unlawful contact with a minor after allegedly having sexually explicit conversations on a computer chat room with a person he thought was a 12-year-old girl.
Michael Lee McBeth, 35, of 38-B Sand Bank Road in Shippensburg, was arraigned Tuesday before Magisterial District Judge Todd R. Williams and jailed on $100,000 bond.
In addition to unlawful contact with a minor, McBeth also was charged with criminal use of a communications facility.
The affidavit of probable cause stated that a man initiated contact with a special agent with the Child Predator Unit, who pretended to be a 12-year-old girl in an online chat room. The two-hour chat occurred Nov. 30, 2007, during which time the man wrote sexually explicit statements and sent a photo of his genitals, police said.
