Franklin County master gardeners plan annual plant sale May 23

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- The 12th annual plant sale held by the master gardeners of Penn State Cooperative Extension of Franklin County, will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday, May 23, at the extension office in the demonstration and trial gardens on Franklin Farm Lane.

The sale will include reblooming daylilies and miniature hostas. Varieties of perennials include species suitable for both shade (such as columbine and Jacob's ladder) and sun (iris, daisies, rudbeckia and echinachea, among others). Vegetable plants will include many varieties of tomatoes not available in garden centers. Shrubs such as lilacs and forsythia will be available, as well as herbs and ground coves. All plants being sold have been raised in the area, and many are divisions taken directly from the local volunteers' gardens.
