Greencastle man hurt in crash north of Hagerstown

A Greencastle, Pa., man was injured Wednesday when his van struck a utility pole and a road sign off of U.S. 11 north of Hagerstown, Maryland State Police said in a news release.

John Mason, 29, was listed in serious condition Wednesday night at Washington County Hospital, according to a nursing supervisor there.

Police said Mason was driving north on U.S. 11 when his Plymouth Voyager ran off the road at about 5:36 p.m., south of Mesa Terrace.

The utility pole was broken in half by the impact, police said.

Mason, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, negligent driving, driving an unregistered motor vehicle and a seatbelt violation, police said.
