Hospital names Swope, Peitz as Nurses of the Year

Washington County Hospital recently named its 2008 Professional Nurse of the Year award winners.

The award is given annually to a clinical nurse and to an administrative nurse who best exemplify the outstanding qualities of a professional nurse. The awards this year went to Tyla Swope, RN, BSN, and Pamela Peitz, RN, MS, CHES.

Swope, named Clinical Nurse of the Year, is a clinical nurse on 7E. She has been with Washington County Hospital since 1999.

Swope, in a prepared release, said receiving the award "is a great honor because I work with so many wonderful nurses."

Peitz, named Administrative Nurse of the Year, has been program manager of cardiac rehabilitation and congestive heart failure at Washington County Hospital for eight years. She is also the president of the Maryland Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.

"I am honored to be chosen as nurse of the year among all the excellent candidates who were nominated. I work with great people every day and could not have accomplished this without their efforts," Peitz said.

Nurses are nominated and selected for the awards based on their contributions to their area of expertise, their professionalism and their education. Other professional nurse of the year nominees included Jody Bishop, Julie Blackburn, Cara Burker, Judy Conrad, Veffa Devers, Karen Keener, Teresa Koons, Jessica Leer, Ann Lucas, Debbie Malick, Karen Reed, Heather Sigel, Vanessa Tooley, Diane Vanes and Wendy Zimmerman.
