Alumni party

The Smithsburg High Alumni Association will hold an All Alumni Party Saturday, July 12, at Beaver Creek Country Club at 7 p.m.

Tickets cost $30 per person. The deadline to purchase tickets is June 15.

All Smithsburg alumni, including teachers, are invited.

Cascade Elementary

Character Counts! is a program adopted by Washington County Public Schools to promote character education.

Throughout the year, students complete activities that teach the six pillars of character, including trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.


Those students nominated as Good Citizens for March March were honored April 16.

They include:

Kindergarten, Ms. Redden - Jovon Gallegos and Justin Shifler; first grade - Mrs. Black - Amy Geissinger, Tiffany Ohler and Elizabeth Watkins; second grade - Mrs. Coleman - Kimberly Pett and Cole Torino; third grade - Mrs. Bowers - Derek Harbaugh, Joyce Herr and Shemar Mascoll; fourth grade - Mr. Novinger - Savannah Cates and Roan Cutschall; fifth grade - Mrs. Madigan - Broderick Francis, Zachary Stultz and Rachel Toms; Art - Mrs. Meyland - Journey Smith, kindergarten; and Amy Geissiner, first grade.

School news: T-Shirts are at the school for sale. They are red with white lettering and a green dragon on the front. The shirt sizes available are child's sizes M, L, XL and adult sizes L, XL and 2X. If other sizes are needed or our supply becomes depleted, additional orders will be placed. The shirts cost $10 each, including tax.

Fifth-grade band news. Congratulations to these fifth-grade band students who recently performed at the North Hagerstown High School Music Festival:

Clarinet: Mark Catangui, Brianna Black, Madison Duvall and Vanessa Cuevas; flute - Ashley Raller, Cassidy Pryor-Vega, Myranda Wiles, Elizabeth McLaren, Jessica Edwards, Marissa Dangler, Haley David, Danielle Deley and Kailey Davis; trumpet: Keller Nigh and Brian Starr; alto saxophone: Phillip Clark, Lydia Jernigan and Brandon Widdows; percussion: Evan Eckenrode, Travis Kline and Kyle Ebersole. 24 Game Club finalists - On Thursday, the school's 24 Game Club finalists will compete in the County 24 Game Tournament at HCC. Good luck to Brianna Black, Phillip Clark, Masa Conteh and Danielle Deley.
