Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services responded to 85 calls

SMITHSBURG - Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services (SEMS) responded to 85 calls for service during April.

During the month, 20 calls were within Smithsburg town limits and 15 calls were in the Leitersburg area. There were only two calls each to the Mount Aetna and Cascade/Pen Mar areas.

Mutual aid calls included 12 to Frederick County and two to Franklin County, Pa. An additional nine calls were in the Hagerstown area and two calls were in the Sharpsburg area.

Personnel from SEMS transported 62 patients to local hospitals during the month of April, according to Assistant Chief James Ulrich.

Several transfers were handled during April, including standing by at Sharpsburg Area Emergency Medical Services (SAEMS) so their personnel could attend their banquet, and taking a crew to help cover calls for Community Rescue Service (CRS) in Hagerstown during the recent disaster drill at Hagerstown Regional Airport.
