Five commit to play soccer at Hagerstown CC

May 07, 2008

Clear Spring's Francesco Scotto DiCarlo was one of five local seniors who signed letters of committment Tuesday to play for the Hagerstown Community College men's soccer team this fall.

Scotto Di Carlo was an All-Area, All-Washington County and All-MVAL Antietam first-team forward for the Blazers last fall, scoring 12 goals with eight assists.

The other recruits are South Hagerstown midfielder RayJ Kigembe, North Hagerstown midfielder Jay Cox and defender Nick Rauch and James Buchanan midfielder Kris Potter.

"These guys are going to fill in nicely," said Brian Eichelberger, whose Hawks went 2-13-1 in his first season as HCC coach last year. "With these guys coming in and our seven returning players, I think we're going to do a lot better. I also have some other players who are not quite there yet, but on the cusp, with signing with us."

Potter was an All-Mid-Penn Capital Division first-team selection last fall. Kigembe, a midfielder, was on the All-County second team, while Cox was an All-County honorable mention.

"I'm trying to turn the program around," Eichelberger said. "We made strides last year. My goal last year was just to be competitive in every game, which we were. This year, I want to win more games."

Boonsboro graduate Tyler McKenrick, who led HCC with seven goals and three assists last year, is among the returners.
