Around Funkstown

School year has flown by

Less than one month is left in the school year. Where did this year go?

I truly have no idea!

I know it will be over soon because there is a daily countdown in my house. Not that my children don't adore school, but to be honest, the thought of days by the pool are a tad more appealing right now.

With the school year coming to a close, there are some loose ends that need to be tied up.

PTA meets tonight

The South Hagerstown High School PTA's final meeting is tonight at 6 at the school.

I know this is kind of short notice, but really, so many important things need to be done. If you can make it, that would be awesome! Plans need to be confirmed for next and committees need to be formed and finalized. Try to take a few minutes and help.

Alumni meeting

With the days of summer approaching, graduation is all the rage right now - parties to be planned, invitations to be mailed, so much to do.

Why does it seems like just yesterday that I was graduating ... OK, so not really, but that would make me an alumni.

And that is the next phase for high school seniors ... to be alumni. Thought you were done with South Hagerstown High School? Perhaps for a bit, but the South Hagerstown High School Alumni Association is extremely active and has some information it needs to pass along.

The next meeting of the SHHS Alumni Association is Thursday at Always Rons on Burhans Boulevard at 7 p.m. The meeting is open to members and alumni.

Anyone who attended SHHS can become a member of the alumni association. Any current or past staff member or teacher, administrator, or the parents or guardians of any South High graduate may become members of the association.

For more information or to join, go to www.shhsrebelalumni.org on the Web.

Golf tourney to benefit school

Fore! I think that means heads up or duck real quick - not sure, but I do know there are those of you who do.

Raising funds are a necessary evil ... why not make it fun and take it outdoors. That is exactly what the SHHS Alumni Association and Athletic Boosters have in mind.

The major fundraiser for the year is under way and it's not too late to get involved. There will be a four-person scramble format golf tournament at Beaver Creek Country Club on Thursday, June 12, and it is open to the public.

Deadline for entry is June 5. Entry forms and more information are available at www.shhsrebelalumni.org on the Web.

Town picnic set for June 1

On the horizon is the very popular town tradition of the Funkstown Town Picnic. The date is June 1 and truly so much fun is to be had. Please call Town Hall and let Brenda or Kelly know that you would like to help out. Start perusing the cookbooks for a splendid recipe that you want to share with your neighbors.

Car wash at Girls Inc.

Spring brings us lilacs, robins, baseball ... breathe deep and inhale all the goodness that opens this time of year. Ooops sorry ... allergies?

Well, the pollen count must be off the charts because I know that I could write my column on my car with the heavy layer of spring's splendor. To the car wash we go! Hold your horses (or horse power) for a minute.

On Saturday, Girls Inc. is holding a benefit car wash from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Washington Street. Stop by and let the girls get your ride back to its old shiny self. Donations are gladly accepted.

Until next week

Well, my time and space for this week have ended ... please be safe and kind. Share many smiles and laughter.
