Maryland lacrosse playoff pairings announced

The Maryland state boys and girls lacrosse playoff draws were announced Monday.

In boys Class 3A-2A West, 11th-seed North Hagerstown will travel to fifth-seed Winters Mill and 10th-seed South Hagerstown will travel to seventh-seed Francis Scott Key for first-round games Thursday. In Class 2A-1A West, fifth-seed Smithsburg received a bye to the quarterfinals, when the Leopards will travel to face fourth-seed South Carroll on Saturday at 4 p.m.

In girls Class 3A-2A West, ninth-seed South Hagerstown will travel to eighth-seed Clarksburg and 10th-seed North Hagerstown will travel to seventh-seed Francis Scott Key for first-round games Thursday. In Class 2A-1A West, eighth-seed Smithsburg will host ninth-seed Catoctin on Thursday at 6 p.m.


Walkersville 17, Smithsburg 9

WALKERSVILLE, Md. - Kevin Schellenberg led Smithsburg with five goals in the loss.

Craig Trueblood, Shane Mann, Cullan Ganley and Josh Ritchey each had a goal for the Leopards (9-5). Trueblood and Schellenberg each had an assist.


Tuscarora 15, North Hagerstown 3

Danny Tellenko scored four goals to lead Tuscarora over North Hagerstown.

Nick Rauch, Alex Henry and Colin Lodter scored for the Hubs (1-9). Dakota Durning had an assist.


Tuscarora 13, North Hagerstown 8

Hannah Barton and Jackie Keller each scored twice to lead North Hagerstown in a loss to Tuscarora.

Gabby Yacyk, Devan Veger, Jen Baker and Kristen Mazzei each added a goal and Morgan Padula made 11 saves for the Hubs (2-9).


No. 2 Waynesboro 11, Northern 10

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Nathan Minnich went 5-for-5, including a solo home run, and drove in five runs for the Indians in a 10-inning victory.

Ian Smith led off the 10th with an infield single. Two batters later, Greg Wade drove Smith in with a walk-off double for Waynesboro (13-4).

No. 5 Clear Spring 9, Williamsport 1

WILLIAMSPORT - Brett Turner and Corey Morgan each had three hits to help Clear Spring rout Williamsport in the MVAL Antietam.

Jordan Thurber added two hits and Josh Constable had three hits and struck out nine in a complete-game victory for the Blazers (14-3, 6-1).

Williamsport falls to 5-12, 1-9.

No. 6 Chambersburg 4, Carlisle 3

CARLISLE, Pa. - Chambersburg scored two runs with two outs in the top of the seventh to edge Carlisle in a Mid-Penn Commonwealth game.

Jim Byers and Jared Shelley each drove in a run in the seventh for the Trojans (11-7), who clinched a share of the Mid-Penn Commonwealth title. Calvin Mentzer led the Trojans with three hits and an RBI, and Ben Eby added two hits.

No. 7 Greencastle 7, Boiling Springs 0

BOILING SPRINGS, Pa. - Evan Dixon and Joe Sellitto combined on a four-hit shutout and the Blue Devils wrapped up the Mid-Penn Capital title.

Dixon started and worked three innings, allowing three hits and a walk while striking out six for Greencastle (13-5, 12-2). Sellitto allowed a hit and a walk in four innings, striking out six.

Grant Meyers, Trevor Ile, Rusty Cordell and Jared Doyle each had two hits for the Blue Devils, who finished with 12 as a team.

Boonsboro 11, Smithsburg 3

BOONSBORO - Eli Beard had three hits and five RBIs to help Boonsboro rout Smithsburg in the MVAL Antietam.

Seth Poffenberger also had three hits, including two doubles, and three RBIs, while Jared Ferguson added two hits for the Warriors (8-9, 4-6).

Josh Conway had two hits for the Leopards (5-12, 1-9).

Bishop Walsh 10, Hancock 0

CUMBERLAND, Md. - Logan True and Jake Foreman each hit a double for Hancock (8-9) in the loss.

Tussey Mountain 6, Southern Fulton 0

SAXTON, Pa. - Jeremy Clingerman went 2-for-3 for Southern Fulton (7-6) in a loss to Tussey Mountain.


No. 1 Waynesboro 11, Northern York 0

DILLSBURG, Pa. - Taryn Ashway pitched her 11th shutout of the season - a two-hitter with 14 strikeouts and no walks - to lead Waynesboro to a Mid-Penn Colonial victory.

Ashway added two hits, including a solo homer, and two RBIs.

Emily Masters and Mallory Wishard had three hits each, Amanda Gray had two hits with a two-run homer and three RBIs, and Natasha Alexiou homered for the Maidens (16-2, 11-1).

No. 4 Greencastle 2, Boiling Springs 1

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Rachel Statler hit a two-run single in the first inning to set up Greencastle-Antrim for a Mid-Penn Capital victory.

Autumn Appleby struck out 11 to lead the Blue Devils (17-2, 13-1), who finished first in the Capital with the win.

No. 5 Williamsport 2, Clear Spring 0

WILLIAMSPORT - Kelly Beard struck out 14 to earn the shutout vioctory for the Wildcats.

Kayla Ewing scored on a groundout in the fourth inning to put Williamsport (14-2, 8-2) in the lead. Kelly Candy Horchner scored on an overthrow in the fifth for the second run.

Clear Spring fell to 7-10, 3-6.

No. 7 Boonsboro 3, Smithsburg 1

BOONSBORO - Becky Young had two hits and two RBIs to lead Boonsboro over Smithsburg in the MVAL Antietam.

Jaime Donato added two hits and Bridgette Ringley struck out nine for the Warriors (12-5, 7-3).

Emily Bolton led the Leopards (8-10, 2-8) with two hits.
