Hello!

There are a lot of South High reunions coming up, so please make sure you keep an eye here so you don't miss them.

Before we know it, school will be out and summer will be upon us. Don't forget to shop for Mother's Day - it is on May 11 this year.

Happy Mother's Day to my mom, Charlotte - may you have a wonderful day and enjoy! I love you. Also, to my daughter, Danielle. You are a wonderful mother and it is so nice to see you doing things with your son that I did with you as you were growing up.

Bus trips planned

There will be a bus trip from June 26 to 29 to Renfro Valley, Ky., home of country, gospel and bluegrass music.

Tickets cost $468 per person, which includes meals, bus trip and shows, all courtesy of Get Out Of Town Tours.

There is a bus trip every month - July will be celebrate USA, August is Celebrate on the Lake.

Grandparents as Caregivers

Grandparents as Caregivers is a group that offers support and education to grandparents who are the main caregivers of their grandchildren.

On Tuesday, from 10:30 a.m. to noon, a workshop titled "Becoming a Love and Logic Parent" will be held at the Washington County Commission on Aging, 140 W. Franklin St., fourth floor.

Class of 1988

The South Hagerstown High Class of 1988 is looking for classmates who graduated that year.

The class is hoping to meet in August for its 20th reunion.

Lions Club

The Hagerstown Lions Club will not meet Tuesday, but will celebrate its 86th Charter Night on Saturday.

All members have received a Charter Night flier/reservation form with complete information. Please come and celebrate the club's 85th anniversary.

Class of 1976

The South Hagerstown High School Class of 1976 will gather at Beaver Creek Country Club on Saturday, July 26, at 5 p.m. for a barbecue-style reunion.

Yard sale

Hagerstown First Church of God, at 1015 Rosehill Ave., Hagerstown, will have a yard sale Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There will be yard sale items, along with homemade pies. All profits will benefit missionaries.

Travel show

The Kiwanis Club will present its final travelogue of its travel and adventure film series on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in South High's auditorium.

Professional photographer Dale Johnson will narrate his travel film titled "Venture To Alaska."

In addition to Anchorage, Fairbanks and the capital city of Juneau, the show will highlight the Eskimo village of Wales, Alaska, which is only 60 miles from Russia.

This travelogue was to be held Feb. 13, but was canceled due to inclement weather.

Admission costs $8 for adults and $3 for students. Proceeds will fund the community service project of the Kiwanis Club.

After 33 years, the Kiwanis Club does not plan to sponsor the travelogue series for next season.

The club is looking for another local organization who would be interested in becoming the new sponsor. Steve Geiman, the Kiwanis chairperson and Kiwanis members, will offer assistance to any group interested in doing so.

The series typically opens in September. Call Geiman at 301-739-1981 for details.

Yard/craft sale

The Bester Boosters group is holding its third annual yard and craft sale Saturday, May 24, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. The group is accepting space reservations. Spaces cost $15 or two for $25 and can be reserved by calling 301-733-5328

Saturday Plus

Saturday, May 10 - Ken Koll, living-history enthusiast, presents "The Viking Age An Important Period In History" at Discovery Station. Suggested for ages 13 and older - 2 p.m.

Saturday Plus events are free with paid museum admission or annual membership.

AARP Chapter 623

Chapter 623 of AARP will have its annual picnic on Tuesday, June 10, at noon at Next Demensions.

As tradition, the group will play bingo after the meal and is asking each member to bring at least one bingo prize. The prize should be worth $1 and wrapped. Tickets cost $13 each and can be obtained from Carrie Powell at 301-824- 6120. The last day to order tickets is June 4.

Diabetes meeting

The diabetes support group will meet on Wednesday, May 14, at 1:30 p.m. in the eighth-floor community room at Walnut Towers. Dr. Lisa Price, from Scotland Podiatric, will be presenting a program on "Diabetic Foot Care."

This is open to individuals who live at Walnut Towers and anyone else in the community.

The support group provides a forum to help educate diabetics to help manage their disease and gain support from others. For additional details, contact Lisa McCoy, nutrition and wellness services for Washington Counth Health Department, at 240-313 3300.
