Washington County student wins magazine design contest

May 04, 2008

Maryland Life magazine Editor and Co-Publisher Dan Patrell recently challenged fourth-graders at Lincolnshire Elementary School to design mock magazine covers based on the theme of what Maryland means to them. Shelby Krocker, a student in Miss Cole's fourth-grade class, was selected as the winner from the many entries that were submitted. Her entry depicted Maryland's rolling hillsides, the state flower, the Black-eyed Susan, and a highway showing Maryland's growth with the slogan "Maryland is Growing Every Day." Students were required to write a 100-word essay to accompany their cover to explain their design and how it represented what Maryland meant to them. The children's magazine cover designs will be posted on the Maryland Life magazine Web site.
