I-81 work could slow traffic in Franklin County

May 03, 2008

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- Over the next two weeks, a repair operation on northbound Interstate 81 in northern Franklin County will reduce traffic to a single lane around-the-clock for a few days each week, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

The single-lane traffic restriction is necessary so that PennDOT maintenance crews can safely repair an expansion joint on the northbound I-81 bridge over Conococheague Creek between Exit 17 at Walker Road and Exit 20 at Pa. 997 in Scotland, Pa.

Starting Tuesday at 7 a.m., the right northbound lane is scheduled to be closed until late Thursday afternoon.

The northbound single-lane restriction will be repeated the following week, when the left lane is scheduled to be closed from Tuesday, May 13, at 7 a.m. until late Thursday afternoon, May 15.

Traffic backups might be substantial. Motorists are asked to be alert to this operation and to be cautious when traveling through the work zone.
