Kylee Seymour honored by school

Fifth-grade teachers at Sharpsburg Elementary have chosen Kylee Seymour as Sharpsburg Elementary School's May Community Partnership for Families Character Counts! nominee.

Cynthia Weaver nominated Kylee for modeling Caring, Respect and Responsibility.

"Kylee thinks of others before herself," Weaver said. "She is always willing to help by being patient and understanding of others. She always follows the rules and treats everyone with respect by being polite. She compliments others, always encouraging others. She completes assigned work and always does her best. She continually thinks of ways to help others. Kylee comes to school each day prepared for class. She constantly sets a wonderful example for others to follow. She faithfully performed her duties with the SHARP program here at Sharpsburg Elementary School."

Grandparents visit Sharpsburg school

More than 300 grandparents visited Sharpsburg Elementary School April 17 and 18 for refreshments, photos and activities with their grandchildren.

They visited classrooms and participated in a variety of activities. Grandparents from as far away Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and Parkersburg, W. Va., came to visit their grandchildren.

Two different grandparents visited four grandchildren each and great-grandparents visited three great-grandchildren. A great-grandparent who attended Sharpsburg School in 1937 came back this year to visit great-grandchildren.

Church to hold soup, bake sale

Burnside First Church of God will hold a soup, sandwich and bake sale Saturday, from 10 a.m. until sold out. The church is at 3904 Mills Road, about 3 1/2 miles south of Sharpsburg, off Burnside Bridge Road. Call 301-432-6483 for more information.

St. Mark's to hold yard sale

St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Lappans, will hold a yard sale Saturday, May 10, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church Parish Hall.

Jewelry, household and miscellaneous items will be available. Snacks will be sold. Proceeds from the yard sale will benefit Summer Camps for Youth.

Call the church office at 301-582-0417 to reserve one of the six vendor tables for $10. The church is at 18313 Lappans Road, Boonsboro, near Sharpsburg Pike.

Salem Methodist to host yard sale

Salem United Methodist Church in Keedysville will host a yard sale this Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. to benefit the church campership ministry.

Tables will be set up in the church hall, entrance off Coffman Farms Road. All items are by donation - you decide the price. Salem UMC is at 25 S. Main St., Keedysville, next to the post office. For questions, call the church at 301-432-4046.

Sharpsburg Lions plan busy May

The Sharpsburg Lions Club have planned a yard sale, highway cleanup and many other activities for the month of May:

· May 7 to 10 - Multiple District Convention at Dover Downs, Del.

· May 15 - Regular meeting in our Den; set up for yard sale at Lion Donna's house

· May 16-17 - Yard sale

· May 17 - Highway cleanup

· May 19 -New Market District Lions 55th Charter Night (Dutch's Daughter Restaurant)

· May 20 - White Cane Banquet at Pizzerio Uno, McHenry, Md.

· May 24 - Memorial Day Parade and hot dog stand

· May 29 - Longmeadow Lions 40th Charter Night, at American Legion Post 42 on Northern Avenue in Hagerstown.

The Sharpsburg Lions meet the first and third Thursdays of the month at their Lions Den at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 209 W. Main St., Sharpsburg.

Benevola Methodist to hold yard sale

Benevola United Methodist Church will hold a yard sale Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church Spiritual Life Center.

There will be low prices for household items, toys, children's clothing, furniture, books and miscellaneous items. Reasonable offers will be considered. Hot dogs, steamers, soup, baked goods and drinks will be available. The church is at 19925 Benevola Church Road, just off of Alternate U.S. 40 between Funkstown and Boonsboro.

Catholic Daughters to hold yard sale

The Catholic Daughters of St. James' Court 2207, Boonsboro, will hold its annual indoor yard sale Friday, May 9, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, May 10, from 8 a.m. to noon in the Parish Hall of the church.

Baked goods, soups and sandwiches to eat in or take out will be sold. Everything will be $1 per bag that Saturday. For further information, call Suzie Lushbaugh at 240-420-3852. The church is on the corner of Main Street and Ford Avenue in Boonsboro.
