Happy birthday to you! Storm Burns, grandson of Alice Grimes and resident of Halfway, celebrated a milestone birthday this past Tuesday. Storm turned 16 on Tuesday, April 29. Many happy belated birthday wishes to you, Storm!

Hickory students honored by school

Students at Hickory Elementary School were honored recently for outstanding Character Counts!

The following students were recognized for the month of April for positive Character Counts! traits:

Kiara Patterson, Camden Michael, Shawn White, Ricky Gift, Whitney Kisalita, Isabelle Miller, Isaiah Hilton-Davis, Shaun Loar, Rion Murray, Juliet Kisalita, Brianna Rivera, Daniel Menjivar, Jeanrie Arechiga, Cara Guessford, Benjamin White, Skylar Koontz, Josiah Thompson, Athena Pike, Justin Stouffer and Rebekah Pugh.

Students and families were invited to school for a "pinning" ceremony, which included certificates, pencils, and erasers followed by ice cream sundaes and family bingo. Way to go, students! Job well done!



Parents of Washington County prekindergarten students, please be sure to note the following date on your calendars: prekindergarten classes will not be held Friday.


Happy birthday, Ron! My father-in-law, Ron Shekels, will celebrate a milestone birthday this week.

Author to visit

Autor Melinda Chambers, who wrote "The Day the Snapdragons Snapped Back," will make an appearance at the Valley Mall Waldenbooks store on Saturday.

Get a chance to meet the popular children's author from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Pitch, Hit and Run

Get a chance to compete and showcase your expertise in pitching, hitting and running. The Pitch, Hit and Run event will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at the American Little League field on Mill Street in Hagerstown.

Young driver's course

A free teen drivers safety class will be held at the Washington County Sheriff's Department on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.

Both teens and parents are invited to attend. Topics for this class will include graduated licensing, laws that effect new drivers, personal safety in and around vehicles and impaired driving laws and penalties.

This program is presented free of charge and will be held at the patrol building. Those interested in attending may register by contacting Deputy James Holsinger at 240-313-2194.
