Williamsport restaurant has grand opening

WILLIAMSPORT -- Sam Cool celebrated his April 30th birthday in style. He and his two partners, brother Shawn Cool and Mike Fotta, took part in the grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for their new restaurant in Williamsport, the Governor's Landing Deli & Restaurant.

The restaurant, which opened in October 2007, has been gaining customers mostly through word of mouth. It is in the Bowman Business Park at 10212 Governor Lane Blvd., not far from businesses like Lenox Distribution Center and D.M. Bowman Trucking.

With so many employees working in that industrial corridor, Don Bowman felt a restaurant was needed.

"There's enough tenants and enough going on in this park that we needed a restaurant. With all the people that work here, it's nice for them to have a place to eat," Bowman said.

The restaurant, which seats about 70, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and is open Tuesday through Saturday, according to a press release from the Washington County Convention & Visitors Bureau.

"It's good to have a restaurant on this end of town. We're pleased Williamsport has something new. It's another available opportunity for visitors and residents alike," said Tom Riford, president and CEO of the visitors bureau.

Mike Fotta, who used to own Burkett's Seafood, is the manager of the restaurant.

"We offer a full-size sit-down restaurant with a liquor license. We're trying to keep the family atmosphere in an industrial park," Fotta said.

The menu at Governor's Landing offers a wide variety of gourmet deli items from homemade soups and salads to subs, sandwiches, wraps, steaks and seafood. Cream of crab and Maryland crab soup are always available and crabs steamed with Fotta's special seasoning are cooked to order in season.

Shawn Cool confidently states that Governor's Landing serves the best crab cakes in the Williamsport/Halfway area.
