'Aladdin Jr.'

Springfield Middle School Eighth-Grade Theater Class is performing Disney's "Aladdin Jr.," under the direction of Stephanie B. Stull.

The performance will be held in the Springfield Middle School Auditorium Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m. Admission costs $5 in advance or $7 at the door. For tickets, contact Stull at 301-766-8389.

School marks 30th anniversary

Springfield Middle School will celebrate its 30th anniversary Saturday.

The special day starts with a pancake breakfast at 8 a.m. to benefit the Musical Theatre Group.

At 9:45 a.m., the Springfield Jazz Band will perform, followed by the "River Rat" dedication and a free drawing at 10 a.m.


The Springfield Orchestra is scheduled to perform at 10:15 a.m., followed by the Chamber Choir at 10:30 a.m.

A book fair will be held in the school's media center from 8 to 11:30 a.m. and starting at 8:45 a.m. tours of the school will be given every 30 minutes by the student government representatives.

In addition, a Kids Corner will feature temporary tattoos and face painting.

A special Green Team Tree Dedication will take place at 11 a.m.

Springfield Middle School wooden replicas will be on sale for $12 each.

5th Museum Ramble

The Town Museum of Williamsport in the historic Springfield Farm Barn will be open for the fifth annual Washington County Museum Ramble on Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.

The Museum Ramble is a self-guided tour that includes more than 14 museums and historical sites in Washington County.

Solo art exhibit

Our friend and artist, Lucy Ecker, will have a solo art exhibit Sunday at the Mansion House Art Gallery across from the train museum in Hagerstown City Park.

The opening reception will be from 2 to 4 p.m. The exhibit runs through May 25.

Gallery hours are Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. Admission is free.

Bullying and Gangs

On Sunday, the Youth Fellowship of Williamsport United Methodist Church, 25 E. Church St., invites all middle and high school students to attend a program about bullying and gangs presented by Margie Lowery.

Two follow-up programs, one for younger children and one for parents only, will be coming soon. Lowery is available and willing to visit your group and talk with children and parents about this problem. Call her at 301-582-0545 for more information.

Class of 1948

WHS Class of 1948 will meet Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at the Sizzlin Steak House.

Blood drive

An American Red Cross blood drive will be Tuesday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Health Care Center Chapel at Homewood at Williamsport on Virginia Avenue.

Swim lessons

Signup for Red Cross swim lessons will be at Pavilion 1 in Byron Memorial Park on Saturday, May 17, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Registration costs $45, which is due at the time of signup.

Morning sessions (9 to 11:15 a.m.)

Session 1: June 23 to July 3; Session 2: July 7 to July 17; Session 3: July 21 to July 31.

Evening sessions (6:15 7:45p.m.)

Session 1: June 9 to June 19; Session 2: June 23 to July 3; Session 3: July 7 to July 17; Session 4: July 21 to July 31. The pool and pool concession stand opens May 24.

Trees planted

The Potomac Garden Club recently planted seven fruit trees at the Springfield Farm House.

Once the farm house is restored, the club hopes to plant and establish a kitchen herb garden.
