Two men charged in daytime burglary of Berkeley County home

April 30, 2008

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- Two men were in Eastern Regional Jail Tuesday night on charges of daytime burglary of a Berkeley County home earlier this month, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court and jail records.

Orion Kristopher Jackson, 18, and Robert Michael Connell, 19, were arraigned by Magistrate Jim Humphrey, who set a $25,000 for each of them on Monday.

The Berkeley County burglary happened on April 16 at a residence along Basil's Lane in Gerrardstown, W.Va., according to a complaint by Berkeley County Sheriff's Department Deputy Lt. Gary Harmison.

The day after the burglary, police were told that a witness saw a safe being dumped into Back Creek from a red Toyota or Nissan, according to Harmison. The vehicle description matched information received about a home-invasion-type burglary that happened in Frederick County, Va., Harmison said in his complaint.

Harmison said in his complaint that Connell, of 426 Cashew Lane, Gerrardstown, called the officer and wanted to admit to a burglary in Frederick County, Va., according to the deputy's complaint.

Jackson, no address available, was found driving the suspect vehicle on April 17 and police found several pieces of jewelry inside, according to a separate complaint Harmison filed against the defendant.
