Women in Defense honoring local community leaders

April 28, 2008

The Women in Defense Greater Frederick Chapter will honor local community leaders who have inspired young people in math and/or science.

Maj. Gen. George W. Weightman, commanding general, U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command, will present the awards at the second annual WID-GFC "Reach for the Stars" dinner on Thursday, May 8, at Dutch's Daughter Restaurant in Frederick, Md. You are asked to nominate potential awardees. The award candidates may come from industry, academia, government or the military. A nominee must live or work in the Greater Frederick area and be older than 18.

Local individuals will be honored who inspire our youth to excel in the math and science disciplines; lead the community in promoting careers and education in technical and scientific fields; and/or encourage children, young girls especially, to study technical disciplines by generating enthusiasm and interest in these areas.

To submit a nomination, go to www.greaterfrederickwid.org to complete an online nomination form or e-mail Luanne.houck@gdit.com for a nomination form.
