Women's motorcycle group delivers items to Washington County animal shelter

April 28, 2008

On March 22, the Williamsport HOG Chapter 1544 Ladies Of Harley delivered a variety of items to the Humane Society of Washington County after a monthlong collection drive by its members.

The women's group used the animal shelter's wish list to determine what items to collect.

Roberta Nave, treasurer of the group, spearheaded the drive. "All the Ladies of Harley worked very hard to collect a wide variety of items for the shelter," Nave said. "Almost everything that was donated came from our ladies, but other members of the club also donated items."

Paul Miller, executive director of the animal shelter, was very impressed with the amount of items the Ladies of Harley donated.

"This is a really nice donation by the Ladies of Harley. It is just a shame they couldn't have brought the items to the shelter on their bikes."

The motorcycle group members initially planned to bring the items to the shelter on their motorcycles but inclement weather resulted in their having to use their four-wheel transportation to bring the donations.

The Humane Society of Washington County is at 13011 Maugansville Road in Hagerstown. Go to www.hswcmd.org on the Web for information on animal-related issues, directions to the shelter, and information about its programs and services.
