Happenings at St. Mary School in Hagerstown

April 28, 2008

Ensembles

The third- and fourth-grade students at St. Mary Catholic School enjoyed a program sponsored by the Maryland Symphony Orchestra called "Ensembles in the Schools." A brass quintet made up of symphony musicians playing the trumpet, trombone, French horn and tuba presented the history of the instruments as well as how each instrument functions. The program was funded in part by the Washington County Arts Council and St. Mary Home and School Association.

Spiritual bouquet

Kathleen O'Malley, an eighth grader at St. Mary, had the honor of carrying a spiritural bouquet to the Mass in Washington, D.C., on April 17, where it was to be presented to Pope Benedict XVI during his visit to the U.S. Each class prepared a unique prayer card. The spiritual bouquets from grades kindergarten through eight were put into booklet form and made ready for its special journey.
