Kids Alive Fest set for May 17

Two area youngsters will be inducted into the Life Safety Hall of Fame at the 17th annual Kids Alive Fest at Children's Village of Washington County on Saturday, May 17.

The event will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Children's Village campus, 1546 Mount Aetna Road in Hagerstown. Admission is free. The event will be held rain or shine.

The students will be inducted into the hall of fame at a ceremony beginning at 11:45 a.m. They are being honored for implementing skills learned and practiced at Children's Village to properly handle a family emergency.

The day's other activities will include a K-9 demonstration by staff from the Maryland Correctional Institution at 12:30 p.m., an auto extrication demonstration by the Maugansville Goodwill Vol. Fire Co. at 1:15 p.m., and a Ronald McDonald Safety Show at 2 p.m.

A child safety seat check will be held throughout the day in the nearby Brethren Mutual Insurance parking lot. Child identification services will be provided by Gaye McGovern Insurance Agency, State Farm Insurance.

Weather permitting, activities include mini-car rides, radar gun contest and fire hose spraying challenge. There will be continuous tours of the Power of Fire House, and families will have the opportunity to complete safety stations throughout the day.

Event sponsors for the 17th annual Kids Alive Fest are Sovereign Bank and Susquehanna Bank.

Children's Village of Washington County Inc. is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing free life-safety education to elementary school children in Washington County.
