Jefferson baseball claims ifs 1,000 victory

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. -- Top-ranked Jefferson earned wins against Berkeley Springs and Hedgesville on Tuesday, the 999th and 1,000th victories in team history.

Patrick Lewis struck out nine and walked none in a complete-game effort to lead the Cougars over Berkeley Springs (8-5) 5-0 in the first game.

Stephen Peters had three RBIs and Tyler Hester had two stolen bases for the Cougars.

Brandon Campbell struck out 11 and allowed three hits in six innings to help Jefferson (21-2) defeat Hedgesville (9-10) 5-2 in the second game.


The wins also gave Jefferson its 32nd consecutive season with at least 20 victories.

CD East 5, No. 2 Chambersburg 4

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- Tyler Zuvich hit a three-run homer in the sixth inning to lead Central Dauphin East to a comeback win over Chambersburg in a Mid-Penn Commonwealth matchup.

Zach Helm had three hits, while Garrett Sanders and T.J. Warner each had two to lead Chambersburg (7-3, 6-1).

No. 3 South Hagerstown 3, Williamsport 2

WILLIAMSPORT -- Tyler Presgraves had two hits, including a two-run homer, to help South Hagerstown beat Williamsport.

Tim Hamilton and Tim Leather each had two hits for the Rebels (8-1).

A.J. Jamison had two hits for the Wildcats (3-8).

No. 4 Mercersburg 12, Notre Dame 11

MERCERSBURG, Pa. -- Trevor Smith had four hits to help Mercersburg Academy edge Notre Dame in eight innings.

Tom Timoney and Collin Stevens had two hits apiece for the Blue Storm (10-3).

No. 5 Waynesboro 7, E. Pennsboro 4

WAYNESBORO, Pa. -- Nathan Minnich had three hits and two RBIs, leading Waynesboro over East Pennsboro.

Nathan Kauffman had three hits and Brenton Kopecek contributed with two hits for the Indians (9-2).

No. 6 Clear Spring 4, Smithsburg 1

CLEAR SPRING -- Jordan Thurber hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning as Clear Spring defeated Smithsburg in an MVAL Antietam game.

Josh Constable pitched a complete-game one-hitter, recording 11 strikeouts for the Blazers (9-2).

Josh Conway went the distance in the loss for Smithsburg, striking out six. He also had Smithsburg's lone hit and RBI.

North Hagerstown 5, Walkersville 3

WALKERSVILLE, Md. -- Cody Nelling broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the seventh inning with a two-run double to lead North Hagerstown over Walkersville in an MVAL Piedmont game.

Kyle Hoffman and Jake Steich combined on a four-hitter, with Steich picking up the win in relief for the Hubs (4-4, 3-2).

South Carroll 4, Boonsboro 3

BOONSBORO -- Adam Chambers and Cody Snavley each had two hits and an RBI, but Boonsboro (5-6) gave up three runs in the top of the sixth in a loss to South Carroll.

Broadfording 7-13, Mountain View 6-11

Zach Snodderly had three hits, including a double, and scored the winning run on a wild pitch as Broadfording edged Mountain View in the opener of a doubleheader sweep.

Gabe Hirsch had two hits for the Lions (5-4).

In the second game, Broadfording had only four hits, but still managed to outscore Mountain View.

Hancock 5, Paw Paw 4

HANCOCK -- Willie Powell broke a 4-4 tie with the game-winning single in the seventh to lead Hancock over Paw Paw.

Mike Clingerman and Ben Hoopengardner combined to give up four hits for the Panthers (6-6).

Grace 6, CVCS 4

Pat Salvagno pitched a complete game and helped his cause with two hits and two RBIs to lead Grace Academy over Cumberland Valley Christian (2-5) in a Mason Dixon Christian Conference game.

Brandon Hess and Kenny Frederickson each had a hit and an RBI for the Knights (4-4).

Shalom 11-10, Heritage 5-6

MARION, Pa. -- Zach Kipp had three hits, including a grand slam, in the first inning, to lead Shalom Christian past Heritage Academy in the second game of an abbreviated MDCC doubleheader.

Derek Keener had four hits and Cody Wise had two hits for Shalom (6-1).

Cody Butts, Travis Barthalow, Steven Barthalow and Andrew Hendershot had two hits each for Heritage (5-3, 5-2).

Earlier, Shalom won the completion of their suspended season-opening game.

Urbana 2, Martinsburg 1

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- Spike Geffert had a double and struck out eight for Martinsburg (15-9) in a loss to Urbana.


No. 2 Hedgesville 12, Martinsburg 5

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- Paige Reed had three hits and five RBIs as Hedgesville beat Martinsburg.

Brittany Boarman had three hits, while Brittany Kolb, Sam Nazelrod and Sam Mumaw had two hits each for the Eagles (22-2).

Tiffany Farmer had a three-run triple for the Bulldogs (8-9).

East Pennsboro 5, No. 3 Waynesboro 4

ENOLA, Pa. -- Taryn Ashway threw a four-hitter and struck out nine in Waynesboro's loss to East Pennsboro.

Amanda Gray went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Indians (8-2, 6-1).

No. 6 Williamsport 5, South Hagerstown 1

WILLIAMSPORT -- Kelly Beard allowed only one hit and struck out eight to lead Williamsport over South Hagerstown (4-9).

Kayla Ewing went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Williamsport (9-1).

Boonsboro 12, South Carroll 0

BOONSBORO -- Bridgette Ringley struck out six and had two hits as Boonsboro cruised past South Carroll.
